Keïta’s younger brother, Petit Keïta, was earlier on the books with German Inter Leipzig. You may have noticed that on the player’s social media accounts, his middle name has been changed from “Naby Laye Keita” to “Deco,” which is said to be a tribute to the former Portuguese midfielder. He later joined Liverpool Academy in October 2018, however, the contract did not go forward. He currently owns a Mercedes SUV G-Class.

 In 2017, Naby filed a suit against filing fake documents like driving licenses in Germany. He had to pay a hefty fine of €415,000, which was charged as per his current salary at the time, which was €3 million. After Naby’s lawyer filed an appeal, the final amount came down to €250,000.

Career

Naby started his football career with Ligue 2 club FC Istres in 2013 before moving to Redbull Salzburg the year after. He won the title for Austrian Football Bundesliga and the Austrian cup double. In 2016, he made a switch to RB Leipzig joining the Bundesliga team in his first year and UEFA Europa League in the second. In 2017, he joined Liverpool to continue his career and ended up winning the UEFA Championship in the first season and FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League in the next season.

In 2012, Naby made his international appearance representing Guinea. He won around 40 caps and was a part of the team at the Africa Cup of Nations in the years 2015, 2019 and 2021.

RedBull Salzburg

2014 saw Keita’s £1.5 million transfer from FC Istres to Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. On July 26, 2014, he made his league debut in a 5-0 victory over Wiener Neustadt. In a 3-1 victory over Celtic of the Scottish Premier League in the Europa League in November, Keita made his Salzburg debut. In February 2015, Naby scored his first goal in the Austrian Bundesliga during a 2-2 tie with Ried. Keita helped Salzburg win the Austrian Cup and retain their Austrian Bundesliga championship by scoring 12 goals in 29 games.

RB Leipzig

In June 2016, RB Leipzig acquired their sister club Red Bull Salzburg in a deal of €11 million. After Leipzig was given its first-ever promotion to the Bundesliga, Naby relocated there. With a thrilling 89th-minute goal in RB Leipzig’s 1-0 triumph over Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund on September 10, 2016, he made an immediate impression on the German club. Keita and Liverpool FC have come to terms on a £48 million deal, with the midfielder expected to join the Reds at the end of the 2017–18 campaign. He contributed a goal and an assist to a 2-1 victory over Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich, earning him the title of player of the game. Keita played in 37 games across all competitions in the 2017–18 season, tallying six goals and five assists.

Liverpool FC

On June 27, 2018, Liverpool FC made Keita their new acquisition. 

Inking a long-term contract, Keita became their second acquisition of the 2018 summer transfer window. Keita was a member of the Liverpool FC teams that won the Premier League and the Champions League in 2018–19 and 2019–20, respectively.

International Career

On December 14, 2012, Keita made his debut for Guinea against Sierra Leone in a 2014 African Nations Championship qualification game. 

At the 2015 African Cup of Nations, he played four times for the national team. Later, he made two appearances in the 2019 competition.
