Everything You Need To Know About Rangers’ Adolis García

Jose Adolis Garcia Arrieta is a Major League Baseball (MLB) outfielder from Cuba who plays for the Texas Rangers. He was an ex-player for the Yomiuri Giants in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and the St. Louis Cardinals in Major League Baseball (MLB). Garcia was awarded the MLB all-star in the years 2021 and 2023.

Career Trajectory

Let’s start with Gracia’s career and how he has performed over the years. From 2011 until 2016, Garcia took part in the Cuban National Series with Ciego de Avila. García signed a contract with the Yomiuri Giants of Nippon Professional Baseball on April 20, 2016. García participated in the 2015 Pan American Games as a member of the Cuban national team.

Gracia left Cuba in 2016. He accepted his invitation to spring training in February 2017, as a non-roster player and signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played in 2017 for the Memphis Redbirds of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League and the Springfield Cardinals of the Class AA Texas League. Between the two teams, he had a batting average of 290, 15 home runs, and 65 RBIs.

He started his 2018 campaign in Memphis. On August 6, the Cardinals promoted him to the major leagues. He batted for Memphis in 112 games, 256 with 22 home runs, 71 RBIs, and ten stolen bases. He also batted 118 in 21 St. Louis games. The date of Garcia’s assignment was December 18, 2019.

Garcia was then onboarded by Texas Rangers on December 21, 2019, with a better offer. He played for the Rangers in 2020 but only managed to score six points.

On February 10, 2021, Garcia was given the position after Mike Foltynewicz’s contract was formally announced. He was outrighted on February 12th and then received an invitation to spring training as a non-roster invitee.

On April 13, 2021, Garcia’s name was added to the active roster after Ronald Guzman was placed on the injured list. He won American League Rookie of the Month in May 2021 after hitting 312 with a 633 slugging percentage and 11 home runs. 

Garcia was a reserve for the American League in the 2021 MLB All-Star Game, scoring one run and walking twice. He led all rookies in RBIs with 90 and extra-base hits with 59 in 2021 with his batting line of 243/.286/.454/.740. With 16 outfield assists and 31 home runs, he tied for the league lead.

On April 22, 2023, against the Oakland Athletics, Garcia scored eight runs with five hits, three home runs, and two doubles. By doing this, he made MLB history by becoming the fourth player to hit three home runs and two doubles in the same game. 

Garcia was selected to play as a reserve for the American League in the 2023 MLB All-Star Game for the second time in his career. However, he missed ten games after sustaining a patella tendon strain on September 8th in his right knee. In 148 games overall in 2023, Garcia hit 245/.328/.508/.836 with 39 home runs, 107 RBI, and 9 stolen bases.

Despite losing the division to the Houston Astros on the final day of play, the Rangers overcame the Rays and Orioles in 2023 to make it to the ALCS and take them on. In the final four games of the series, Garcia hit five home runs. In Game 5, Garcia hit a three-home run that won the game, putting Texas ahead. 

Garcia was hit by another player and was given a fine after grabbing a fastball from Bryan Abreu in the bottom of the eighth inning. There was a bench-clearing incident as a result. Houston took the lead to 5–4. Despite striking out four times that day, he hit a grand slam in the top of the ninth inning of Texas’ Game 6 in Houston. 

Garcia scored five runs and hit two home runs in Texas’ 11-4 victory in Game 7. In the series, Garcia recorded a postseason series record with 15 RBIs, gaining him the title of ALCS Most Valuable Player. With a walk-off home run in the eleventh inning of Game 1 of the 2023 World Series, García defeated Miguel Castro. The Arizona Diamondbacks were the opponents in this game. Garcia set a single postseason record with 22 RBI during the Rangers’ run.

Garcia missed the next two games of the series due to a strained right oblique that he had after Game 3. Texas and Garcia won the 2023 World Series in five games. He won his first-ever Gold Glove Award in 2023 while playing outfield for the American League.

Personal Life

Adolis Garcias’ father’s name is Jose who used to play baseball as well, but his mother’s name is not known publicly. His older brother, Adonis, was also an MLB player. Adonis played in the Minor Leagues before signing a contract with the New York Yankees in 2012. In 2015, the team let him go. Adonis signed a contract with the Atlanta Braves that same year. He finished his MLB career with the same team in 2017. But he continued to play baseball, participating in the Mexican League in 2019 and the KBO Leagues in 2018. In the 2016 Caribbean Series, the two brothers also competed against one another.

He seems to have a close relationship with his wife and kids. In an interview with MLB, Adolis disclosed that his brother served as a major role model for him as a child. 

He also mentioned how beneficial it has been for him to have Adonis as a brother and how his goal has always been to emulate his brother. Additionally, Adolis is the godfather of the daughter of Randy Arozarena. In an interview, Randy disclosed that he and Adolis are similar to brothers.

Relationship with Wife and Kids

Yasmarys Gonzalez is Adolis Garcia’s wife. On April 13, 2011, the couple tied the knot in a private ceremony with family members and close friends. There isn’t much known about the Yasmarys or their relationship as they are very private about their relationship.

In 2017, they welcomed their first child in the world, Chris Jason, who is now 8 years old. The public is not aware of the daughter’s name or birth details, though the couple does have one.
